Philadelphia Activists Arrested, Framed and Denied Bail for Speaking Out in Favor of Marijuana Legalization

(Philadelphia, PA, May 22, 2013) — Comedy-activist troupe “The Panic Hour” and activist advocate Shield Mutual are supporting a rally Thursday May 23, 2013 at the James A. Byrne federal courthouse at 601 Market St. in Philadelphia that will demand the immediate and unconditional release of activists Adam Kokesh and N.A. Poe from federal prison.

More than two hundred friends and allies of Kokesh and Poe are expected at the rally, which runs concurrent with Kokesh and Poe’s 1:30PM detention hearing.

At 2:30PM, representatives of Kokesh and Poe will hold a press conference on the steps of the Byrne courthouse to address these events.

Kokesh and Poe were arrested on Saturday, May 18, 2013 while speaking to a permitted marijuana legalization rally at Independence Mall National Historic Park in center city Philadelphia, in a space specifically designated for free speech. They are being framed on felony charges of assaulting a federal officer, despite overwhelming video footage to the contrary.

“They just came after Adam [Kokesh] and N.A. Poe, the organizer of Smokedown – the only two there out of hundreds present who were taken into custody,” said Michael Salvi, an observer of the rally.

At a preliminary hearing in front of US Magistrate Judge Thomas J. Rueter in the Byrne courthouse on Monday, May 20, 2013, Kokesh and Poe were denied bail.

“We are not deterred. We will continue to fight to get our friends removed from federal custody and continue to organize to legalize cannabis in Pennsylvania,” said Vanessa Maria, producer of “The Panic Hour.”

This is the one and only official Adam Kokesh legal fund. Adam’s business team, his friends, other activists and his selected public relations agent Shield Mutual are operating this fund because we need funds to hire a lawyer and Adam obviously cannot access his funds while in prison.

Adam Kokesh is currently in the Philadelphia federal prison on absurd and unfounded charges of assaulting a federal officer. We urgently need to retain a lawyer to defend Adam from the government legal system.

Although the video evidence may exonerate Adam, in the meantime he will need legal assistance negotiating release conditions and possibly a plea bargain. Hiring a top lawyer will enable his defense to progress more effectively.

This is the federal court system. Justice is not relevant here. Money, lawyers an raw determination count for more.

Support Adam. But keep in mind that this has more to do with us demonstrating our willingness to support each other than it does with Adam. Today it is Adam, tomorrow it will be someone else, maybe you. Set the precedent, support Adam.

This fund is being managed by Shield Mutual and more specifically by George Donnelly. Shield Mutual was hired by Adam in August of 2012 specifically to manage his public relations defense and do what it takes to defend him from government aggression. George Donnelly is a reputable activist in the liberty community. The money will reach Adam’s legal defense.

Thanks to the below video report from Josie Harris and Christopher Cantwell, direct from the federal courthouse in Philadelphia, we know that Adam is being held under 18 USC 11, felony assault on a federal officer. He was not released today but he has a detention hearing Thursday and might be released then. Thanks to Scott MacMillan we have a copy of the complaint against Adam. See it below the video.

The Free Adam Kokesh campaign will share more information as it becomes available. We all need to step up our activities in support of Adam in order to help Adam. He is in a very serious situation. We can not trust that justice will prevail inside the government injustice system. We have to use our rights to make justice prevail.

Speaking from personal experience, Adam is being framed. It’s that simple.

Liberty activists have been released in the past solely upon the outpouring of public support that came via a flood call. Government “justice” is not impartial. When the judge and US attorney know that Adam has an incredible amount of support and that we stand ready to voice that support in ways that are not convenient for these bureaucrats, then we can convince them that Adam is more trouble than he is worth.

What’s this About?

Adam Kokesh is an upstanding marine who is active for peace, marijuana legalization, the right to keep and bear firearms and other worthy causes. Adam was put in a cage by US Park Police in Philadelphia on Sat May 18 2013 for speaking to a marijuana legalization rally. Our mission is clear: get him out of that cage immediately. Adam deserves our support. But this is as much about our willingness to support each other as it is about Adam.
